Mo. conservation agents wrap up firearms deer season poaching cases

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Conservation agents in Missouri's Southeast region issued 225 citations and 238 written warnings for Wildlife Code violations during firearms deer season.

According to MDC, the cited violations included hunting without a deer permit, refusing inspection by an agent, trying to take deer from a public road or car, baiting, failure to wear hunter orange and other violations. They say 22 violations were not deer related.

Ken West, Protection Division Supervisor for the MDC's Southeast Region, said finding wildlife violators is a rewarding task for conservation agents.

"Poaching is not a hunting and our agents work hard to sort out the poachers from the ethical hunters," said West.

Mo. State Parks welcome dog owners to stay the night

(KFVS) - Missouri State Parks announced recently starting in January 2012 they will make lodging units available to people traveling with their dogs.

The new Cabins for Canines program includes outpost cabins, camper cabins, yurts, single-unit cabins, fourplexes and duplexes. Previously, pets were not allowed in any state park buildings including lodging units.

"A portion of our lodging units will be available to dog owners and a portion will remain canine-free, giving us a balance to accommodate everyone who wants to come to a state park," said Bill Bryan, director of Missouri State Parks, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Cabins for Canines program will begin Jan. 1, 2012, for state-operated facilities including outpost cabins, camper cabins and yurts. For lodging facilities operated by private concessionaires, the program will be phased in during 2012 based on availability and fully implemented in 2013.
