DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - I stopped by the West Park in Dexter, Mo. Tuesday morning and took a couple of pictures while I was there.

It is located on Highway Business 60 and is such a pretty park. There is a great playground for the little kids.

There are two pavilions and nice, clean restrooms. The paved walking trail is such an asset to the community. Now we don't have an excuse not to get out and get our walk in.

I just like to go there to relax and read or watch the squirrels play.

Website names Missouri top state for camping in U.S.

(KFVS) - Missouri has been named the top state for camping in the United States.

About.com announced the results Friday of their annual Readers' Choice Award for Favorite State for Camping, and Missouri took top honors with the website's gold award. Other states that placed include: Montana with the silver award and Colorado with the bronze award.

“The First Lady and I are proud that Missouri has been selected as a renowned camping destination,” Gov. Nixon said. “Missouri is the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors, so plan to experience our quiet hills, deep woodlands, wide open prairies, and clear Ozark streams on your next camping adventure, and you'll see why the readers picked Missouri as their favorite camping state."

Missouri Division of Tourism Director Katie Steele Danner credited Missouri’s State Parks and privately-held campgrounds for helping Missouri secure the top spot on About.com’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

Mo. State Parks introduces Camp Smart program

Mo. State Parks introduces Camp Smart program

(KFVS) - The Missouri State Parks is encouraging visitors to help implement Camp Smart, a green initiative, throughout the park system that they say will help conserve energy, protect the environment and save money.

According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, reducing energy use will also help Missouri State Parks keep camping fees low.

"We are about fun in the outdoors, but we want to conserve our natural resources and be cost effective too. Our Camp Smart initiative allows campers to actively participate in a program that helps keep fees low and conserves energy at our state park campgrounds," said Bill Bryan, director of Missouri State Parks, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
