POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College announced recently they had almost 17 percent more students enrolled this spring than last year.

The school says this continues a trend of double-digit enrollment increases. In addition, for the first time in recent history, the college reports that its spring enrollment numbers have eclipsed those of the previous fall semester.

“This is the first time spring numbers are ahead of our fall numbers, normally spring semester numbers drop a little,” said college president Dr. Devin Stephenson.

Three Rivers Dexter Center announces new lab, enrollment tops 300

Three Rivers Dexter Center announces new lab, enrollment tops 300

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College Center announced enrollment crossed the 300 mark late in the afternoon on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

The center says enrollment has nearly tripled since its opening in January of last year. They say the spring 2012 registration continues at the Three Rivers main campus in Poplar Bluff and at all of its full-service centers until Friday, Jan. 13.

“Last year, we had a very short time frame in which to notify people and potential students that we would be opening on time,” said center coordinator Bill Hampton.  “Many students who were graduating from high school that May had already chosen to go to school somewhere else.  The graduation of the 2011 class from the local high schools has really helped.”

Hampton said they're seeing students from all walks of life, such as Dexter graduates and workers returning the classroom to improve their job skills.

"Show-Me ShakeOut" earthquake poster contest

"Show-Me ShakeOut" earthquake poster contest

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The State Emergency Management Agency and the Missouri Seismic Safety Commission are sponsoring the "Show-Me ShakeOut" poster contest for Missouri students in third, fourth and fifth grades.

Students across Missouri are invited to create a classroom poster promoting the ShakeOut earthquake preparedness drill on Feb. 17, 2012. SEMA says last year's winners were from Cuba, Macon and Troy.

Because many Missourians live within the New Madrid Seismic Zone, SEMA says each February Missouri observes Earthquake Awareness Month.

The statewide contest winners will receive $50 cash cards and emergency first aid kits for their classrooms. Winning posters will be displayed on SEMA's web site and featured at earthquake awareness events during 2012.
