Three Rivers Patrons of the Arts announces 2012-13 season

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Three Rivers College Patrons of the Arts Society announced its 2012-2013 season, which will include Irish dance and ballet, a pop tribute and an acoustic trio and two children’s shows.

 

All shows will be performed at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the Three Rivers main campus in Poplar Bluff. Because of the support of donors to the Patrons of the Arts Society, ticket price for each show will remain at $10.

“This is an outstanding lineup of performances that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes,” said Robert Cook, Director of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. “And with tickets just $10, people can afford to see the shows they know they will love and to try something new.”

Schools encouraged to participate in MoDOT's 9th Annual Bridge Building Competition

(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is sponsoring its ninth annual bridge building competition for high school juniors and seniors in the Southeast District.

The competition challenges students to design and construct the most efficient model bridge using limited materials-15 pieces of balsa wood, thread and glue.

According to MoDOT, the schools must register by Sept. 10 to compete in the competition. Contest information and registration forms have been mailed to area high schools. If a school is interested in participating and has not received the registration paperwork by Aug. 30, they are encouraged to contact MoDOT. Additionally, an online registration form is available at: http://www.modot.org/southeast/BridgeBuildingCompetition.htm.

SIUC to honor 294 retirees Aug. 29

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University Carbondale will honor 294 retirees at a retirement ceremony and reception on Wednesday, August 29.

According to SIUC, the ceremony will be in the Student Center Ballroom B. It starts at 6 p.m., with a reception following in the John W. Corker Lounge.

Chancellor Rita Cheng and her husband, Tom Cheng, will host the evenings' festivities which honors employees who retired between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012.

SIUC says the employees leaving during this time have 7,026 years of combined experience with the university. Of those retirees 225 have 20 or more years with the university, 59 have 30 or more years and two employees each have 43 years.

(KFVS) - The Southeast Health WebCast on KFVS12.com has announced its sixth season fall schedule that begins Friday, August 24 with the Charleston vs. Sikeston high school football game live from Sikeston High School.

The new fall schedule that runs through November will include various Southeast Redhawk sports, parades, and a high school football game of the week series. Scheduled to be featured are (subject to change):

  • All Redhawk regular season home football games
  • SEMO Homecoming parade
  • 9 high school football games
  • 4 Redhawk soccer matches
  • 4 Redhawk volleyball matches

Three Rivers College begins fall semester with record enrollment

POPLAR BUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College began the Fall 2012 semester on Aug. 20.

Fall enrollment tops more than 4,600 students with 4,664 students, a 10 percent increase over last Fall’s record-breaking enrollment of 4,235, which was topped by Spring 2012 enrollment of 4,330. Credit hours also are at record levels, 51,529 a 16.5 percent jump over last fall.

Students can now take courses at Three Rivers main campus and Nursing and Allied Health Center in Poplar Bluff; at centers in Sikeston, Dexter, Kennett, Malden and Cape Girardeau; at sites throughout southeast Missouri; and online.

The Dexter Center saw a 166 percent increate in enrollment over this time last year.
