Authorities find Advance woman who disappeared

ADVANCE, MO (KFVS) - Authorities in Stoddard County have been notified by police in Nashville that the Advance woman who went missing has been found safe.

According to Sheriff Carl Hefner, Pamela R. Smith was found at a motel in Nashville and the family is making arrangements to get her back home on Thursday.

Nashville police told the sheriff that Smith was fine and had been taking her medication.

The Stoddard County Sheriff's Department was looking for the Advance woman, they say was a harm to herself and others if off of her medication.

The department says Pamela R. Smith, 46, left her home about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 in a red 2007 Toyota Camry four-door.

According to the sheriff's department, Smith was last seen wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants, possibly blue in color. They say she has a past history of violence if off her medication and she did not take her medication with her when she left.

Dexter woman faces over 80 felony charges for forgery, stealing

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - A Dexter woman is facing over 80 felony charges for forgery and stealing.

Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver says Kathy Ellsworth, 48, wrote a total of 41 checks that amount to $320,000 to $340,000, with some more checks still being investigated.

He says each check ranged from $1,000 to $9,300 and she wrote them between Dec. 10, 2009 and Nov. 14, 2011.

According to Oliver, on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, Bobby Lowrey came to the Sheriff's Department to report that from Feb. 11, 2011 until Nov. 14, 2011 his bookkeeper, Ellsworth, had forged 19 different checks totaling $166,034.66 that were payable to her husband and deposited the money into her bank account.

2011 Holiday Military Greetings

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - KFVS12 and The Heartland's CW are once again airing holiday military greetings in special public service announcements that are scheduled to run through New Year's Day.

We think it's important to remember those men and women who are away from their homes so that we can feel safer in ours. The greetings consist of personal messages from service persons stationed at military locations around the world whose families live in the KFVS12 viewing area.

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - This is Sgt. Jon James who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from August 2002 to October 2009.

His service included:

  • Japan from 2002 to 2003
  • Washington, D.C. from 2004 to 2007
  • LeJune, N.C. from 2007 to 2009
  • Iraq from 2007 to 2008

While in Japan, James toured in Korea and was on ship with the 31st MEU to Guam. He also went on deployment to Australia.

Dexter Fire Chief retiring after 48 years

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - Dexter's longtime fire chief will be stepping down.

Al Banken, 77, recently announced that he would be retiring from the Dexter Fire Department.

Banken started as a volunteer firefighter in 1964.  He has been chief for 48 years.

Heartland News asked Banken what he'll do once he hangs up his hat for the last time.

"Well, you know that's on my mind right now, what am I going to do?  I've worked all my life," Banken said.  "I told my wife I'm going to pay more attention to the help wanted ads in the paper and I will get me a job somewhere.  I've just got to.  I can't stay around the house."

Banken says he's also looking forward to spending more time with his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Chief Banken's last day on the job will be January 15.
