3 arrested in Dexter on drug charges

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner reports that on May 22, a search warrant was executed at a Dexter home.

At the home, officers say they found methamphetamine and marijuana inside, along with two sets of digital scales and packaging material. They say a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition was also found in a bedroom, wrapped in a pair of men’s underwear.

Three people were arrested and transported to the Stoddard County Jail. The subjects arrested are identified as:

Shawn M. Meehan, 24 of Dexter, Mo., was charged with the class A  felony of possession of a controlled substance (prior and persistent drug offender). Bond was set at $25,000 cash only.

Heather M. Cunningham, 20 of Dexter, Mo., was charged with the class C felony of possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $25,000 cash only.  

100 mile yard sale kicks off along Route 25

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS)- Thursday kicks off the 100-mile yard sale along Route 25.

About 3,000 people are expected to be selling their stuff in the sale.

The sale normally attracts shoppers from across the country.

It stretches all the way from Jackson, Mo. to Kennett, Mo. and runs through Memorial Day.

Mo. Preservation announces list of Most Endangered Places for 2013

(KFVS) - Missouri Preservation announced its List of Most Endangered Places for 2013 on Tuesday, May 21.

The endangered sites were identified at a Missouri Preservation Press Conference held at the Historic Henry Miller House at 106 Cape Road in Bloomfield, which is included on the 2013 List of Most Endangered Historic Places.  

The Most Endangered Historic Places Program, one of Missouri Preservation's most visible programs, brings much needed attention to threatened historic resources throughout the state. The Most Endangered Program annually spotlights historic resources that are imperiled. Each year Missouri Preservation solicits nominations from around the State, evaluates the merits of the submissions, and announces the Most Endangered.  Throughout the year, Missouri Preservation provides technical assistance, advocacy, and planning support for the listed properties.

Bernie organization helping with OKC relief

BERNIE, MO (KFVS)- Hope International is now taking donations for relief efforts in Oklahoma.  They are looking for hygiene products such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and shampoo. They are also collecting bottled water and cots that will be sent to tornado victims in Oklahoma.

Along with the supplies they will be taking monetary donations at their 601 S. Walnut location in Bernie, MO.

If you would like to help but cannot make it to Bernie, call (573) 293-HOPE and there are some local churches that may serve as drop off sites.

The truck of supplies will be leaving for Oklahoma on Thursday the 23rd.

Bloomfield Civil War Cemetery

BLOOMFIELD, MO (KFVS)- If you are a Civil War historian, this historic site is a must see. The Bloomfield Civil War Cemetery is located on County Road 517 in beautiful Stoddard County, near Bloomfield, Missouri.

According to visitmo.com, "This cemetery holds 150 markers of soldiers who died during the Civil War. Each marker includes a brief account of where, when and how that soldier died."

Larry Arnold is caretaker of the cemetery. He says there are 156 Confederate soldiers buried at the site. One hundred eighteen soldiers came from Stoddard County. All of the soldiers died between 1861-65.

Soldiers killed had served in Richmond, Virginia; Granada, Mississippi and as far away as Kansas.

Court papers: 'Something' told her to 'end him'

PUXICO, MO (KFVS)- A Puxico woman accused of murdering her husband was in court on Thursday morning.

Victoria Isaac's arraignment was 9 a.m. in Stoddard County. She is facing first degree murder charges.

Issac denied representation from a public defender and will
hire her own lawyer within the next week.

She will be back in court Thursday, May 23, at 9 a.m.

New details were released Wednesday in the shooting death of a Puxico man. His wife is charged with murder.

According Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner, authorities arrived on the scene around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Chris Isaac was found dead.

Victoria Isaac, 47, was charged with Class A felony of first degree murder. Hefner said no bond has been set.

Gov. Nixon proclaims May 18 National Kids to Parks Day

(KFVS) - Gov. Jay Nixon has proclaimed May 18 as National Kids to Parks Day in the state and encouraged Missourians of all ages to get outside and enjoy our state and local parks.

This national event is sponsored by the National Park Trust and endorsed by Missouri State Parks.

“Whether visiting a local municipal park or one of our state parks and historic sites, the opportunities for enjoying nature are nearly endless,” Gov. Nixon said. “Participating in activities at our parks, from hiking to fishing, create meaningful family memories that contribute to a life-long appreciation of the outdoors.”

Gov. Nixon created the Children in Nature Challenge to encourage activities that introduce children to nature year round. Communities and families can participate in the challenge and learn more at childreninnature.mo.gov.
