5K, Strollerthon to benefit Dexter Parents as Teachers program

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - The Dexter Parents as Teachers program will be holding a 5K and Strollerthon at West Park on Saturday, March 31.

The event will be at 8:30 a.m. and organizers say it is to help make up for some of the funding they lost in the state's budget.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the Easter Bunny is planning to make a visit.

Advance couple to celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

ADVANCE, MO (KFVS) - Advance couple Ivan and Gavada (Corbin) Woodfin will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Jan. 16.

The Woodfins were married in 1947 in Piggott, Ark. Both born in Bollinger County, Missouri, they lived there until moving to Advance in 1996.

Mrs. Woodfin was a teacher in the Zalma R-5 School District from 1941 to 1980 and Mr. Woodfin was self-employed, owning a trucking business. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific fronts.

They are both long-time members of Bethel General Baptist Church of rural Advance and have been members of the Missouri Delta Airstream Club since 1992. They enjoyed spending their winters in Florida from 1990 to 2010.

The Woodfins have three children: Beverly Woodfin Leslie in Clarksville, Ind., Stan (Andi) Woodfin in Oran, Mo. and Todd (Cheryl) Woodfin in Advance, Mo.

Consigners needed to bring items for large sale

(KFVS) - Organizers are asking consigners to register and bring items for a large sale Jan. 4-11 at West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Kidsgalore & More will be a new consignment sale at the old Steve and Barry's store in the mall.

They are currently registering consigners to bring items for the event. All items are being accepted for consignment as long as they are in "like new" condition.

The event is also in need of volunteers and organizations to donate as well. Organizers say everyone is welcome and help is appreciated for this big event.

Wreaths Across America program at Bloomfield cemetery

BLOOMFIELD, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield will participate in the annual Wreaths Across America Program.

On Saturday, December 10th, a ceremonial wreath will be placed on the graves of all members from each branch of service as well as any former POW. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Committal Shelter Pavilion.

Randy Dunn of the Patriot Guard Riders will serve as Master of Ceremony. Family and friends of those interred at the ceremony are encouraged to attend.
