State Treasurer Clint Zweifel returns unclaimed property, including to Southeast Mo.

(KFVS) - State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced today he has reached an important milestone, returning Unclaimed Property to more than 500,000 accounts since January 2009.

This is the most returned under any State Treasurer since Unclaimed Property became part of the office in 1993.

“Part of my job is to make Unclaimed Property as easy to return to the people who own it as I possibly can,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “By cutting red tape, reducing bureaucracy and modernizing the process, I have returned more than $155 million to more than 500,000 tax payers and cut wait times in half. This is money I hold in trust for tax payers, money people can use to pay bills, buy groceries or even take an unexpected vacation. I hold more than $750 million in Unclaimed Property for more than 4.4 million account owners and will continue to do all I can to reunite this money with the individuals to whom it belongs.”

Gov. Nixon proclaims May 18 National Kids to Parks Day

(KFVS) - Gov. Jay Nixon has proclaimed May 18 as National Kids to Parks Day in the state and encouraged Missourians of all ages to get outside and enjoy our state and local parks.

This national event is sponsored by the National Park Trust and endorsed by Missouri State Parks.

“Whether visiting a local municipal park or one of our state parks and historic sites, the opportunities for enjoying nature are nearly endless,” Gov. Nixon said. “Participating in activities at our parks, from hiking to fishing, create meaningful family memories that contribute to a life-long appreciation of the outdoors.”

Gov. Nixon created the Children in Nature Challenge to encourage activities that introduce children to nature year round. Communities and families can participate in the challenge and learn more at childreninnature.mo.gov.
