City of Dexter adds 4 new tornado sirens | Community Spirit
DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - Dexter City Administrator Mark Stidham has announced Dexter has four new tornado sirens for the city.
According to Stidham, about three months ago they bought the new and improved sirens for roughly $80,000. He said they were installed a couple of weeks ago in different areas of the city.
Stidham said the sirens are solar powered and have the ability for someone to send a personalized direct message to the public at a moments notice. For instance, if there was a tornado that touched down in the city, they can announce through speakers on the siren that there is a tornado that just touched down in the southwestern part of the city, everyone who isn't in the safe zone please take cover.
He said the new sirens give the ability to send out more information to the public in certain areas, rather than the whole city take cover and not knowing what's going on also not knowing if the threat has passed through yet.
