April 27 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 27.

It's a day to turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal.

There will be several locations in the area that will be taking unused or expired medications on Saturday.

The locations are: 

  • Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, 111 West Pine Street, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Doniphan Police Department, 124 Jefferson, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  • Reynold's County Sheriff's Department, 2319 Green Street in Centerville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Ellsinore City Hall, 11 West Cleveland, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Dexter Police Department, 305 Cooper Street, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Piedmont Ambulance Shed, 130 West Elm, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dump truck overturns near Dexter

DEXTER, MO (KFVS)- A dump truck overturned Monday morning in Dexter.

The accident happened near Business 60 and One Mile Road.

According to Dexter Police dispatch, Air Evac was called to the scene.

There is no word at this time regarding how many people were injured or what caused the accident.

Rte. Z to close for railroad crossing repairs

Rte. Z to close for railroad crossing repairs

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says Route Z will be closed while railroad company crews make repairs on railroad crossings.

This section of road is located between Drake Street and Dolphin Street.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Tuesday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MoDOT says the work zone will be marked with signs. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while in the area.

'Baskets of Love' delivered to needy families

DEXTER, MO (KFVS)- Hundreds of people and families were welcomed Saturday with laundry baskets full of love.

The collection started at 8 a.m. in Dexter. Baskets of Love volunteers went from house to house with laundry baskets with cleaning supplies and hygiene products.

They delivered over 300 baskets to needy people in the communities of East Prairie, Dexter, New Madrid, Bernie and Charleston. They call this event Spring Clean 2013.

Volunteers and UPS drivers volunteered their time and trucks to help deliver these baskets full of gifts.

Volunteer Taylor Fuel said, "Some of these people even cried, they were so grateful."

Fuel said it was great to see people smile when they received their basket. All items were bought with donations from the community.

Mo. Speaker, prosecutor to address conceal/carry

Mo. Speaker, prosecutor to address conceal/carry

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -  Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones will hold a public forum in Cape Girardeau on Monday, April 22.

According to Jones, it will be to discuss the topic of  concealed carry permit holders information being sent to an investigator working on a joint project with the Social Security Administration and the ATF.  

According to the Associated Press, Federal investigators never used the information.

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver will be joining the Speaker for the event.

The event will take place at the Common Pleas Courthouse on 44 North Lorimier in Cape Girardeau at 2 p.m.
