34th annual horse show coming to Stoddard Co. fairgrounds

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The 34th Annual Missouri State Championship Racking Horse Show will be on June 4 at the Stoddard County Fairgrounds.

The show will be at 6 p.m. and will include horses and riders with Western or English tack and costume in several different categories.

Tickets for the show are $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 years old and under.

The fairgrounds are located at 612 Fairground Drive in Dexter, Mo.

How you can help storm victims

Rockin' for Storm Relief will be held June 3 and 4 at Bel Air Bar & Grill in Cape Girardeau.  Proceeds will go to the local Red Cross and United Way.  Both nights $5 cover or bring a donations for disaster relief for cover.  Bands are Us Instead, Human Zoo, Tune Squad and others.  It will be June 3 from 4 p.m. to close and June 4 from noon to close.

The Cutler Events Committee is holding a Stuff a Truck event on Friday, June 3.  The committee will be collecting donations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 409 South Main Street.  Donations will go to the Joplin tornado victims.

Rte. 25 reduced for concrete repair

Rte. 25 reduced for concrete repair

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Route 25 will down to one lane while MoDOT crews make repairs to the concrete Wednesday, June 1 to Thursday, June 2.

The part of road that will be reduced is between US 60 and Route E.

Crews will be working from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, weather permitting.

Federal disaster assistance extended to more Mo. counties

Federal disaster assistance has been extended to more Missouri counties hit hard by recent severe storms and flooding.

Mo. Gov. Jay Nixon announced on May 27, 2011 that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended individual disaster assistance to six additional counties and public assistance to 13 additional counties in Mo.

Some counties were designated for individual and public assistance.

"Over the past several weeks, individuals, families and businesses across Mo. have been hit hard by severe storms and flooding," said Gov. Nixon. "As we continue to work 24/7 to recover in the immediate aftermath of the devastating tornado that struck Joplin last week, we must help folks recovering from floods and other storms move forward as well. This additional federal assistance will be a critical part of that process."

MoDOT: most construction suspended over holiday weekend

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation announced Friday they will be suspending most construction and maintenance work over Memorial Day holdiay weekend.

MoDOT will suspend construction to accommodate an increase of traffic over the holiday weekend.

Work stopped at noon on Friday and will resume Tuesday morning. However, some lane and bridge closures will stay in place.

"We want to do all we can so travelers can get where they're going quckly and safely this Memorial Day weekend," said MoDOT Director of Systems Management Don Hillis.

Two plead guilty to child sex charges

Two men pleaded guilty to child sex charges in Stoddard County.

Stoddard County Prosecutor Russell Oliver says Greg Hall pleaded guilty to Class B felony of 1st degree child molestation on May 23.  He was sentenced to nine years in prison.

David Ladd pleaded guilty to Class D felony of sexual misconduct involving a child.  As a prior felon, Ladd faces the enhanced sentencing ranged of a Class C felongy (up to seven years behind bars).  Ladd's sentencing hearing was scheduled for July 1.
