STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking drivers who have traveled through a work zone recently to take their survey.

The survey asks questions like where the work zone you were driving through was located, when and the conditions.

MoDOT's Southeast Dist. now serves 25 counties

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Bolder Five-Year Direction was approved by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission on June 8, which increased the Southeast District and named new district engineers.

With the new direction, 11 counties were added to the Southeast District bringing the total to 25, Mark Shelton was named the new district engineer and Matt Seiler and Tom Stehn were named assistant district engineers.

Shelton has been a district engineer for the Southeast District since 2005 and has worked for MoDOT for almost 26 years.

"I am excited about this new direction and look forward to working with the additional counties in the Southeast District, as well as the communities we serve," said Shelton. "The experience that Matt and Tom bring to the District will help further our mission."

Seiler began his career with MoDOT in construction in Willow Springs.

Power restored for Ozark Electric customers

About 2,500 customers were without power Wednesday morning after a storm took out four transmission lines that supply power to Ozark Border Electric Cooperative.

Stanley Estes with Ozark Border says the power has been restored.

Ozark Border supplies power to parts of the following counties: Carter, Reynolds, Bollinger, Ripley, Butler, Stoddard, Dunklin, New Madrid and Shannon.

Dexter Rotary Club to host four person golf scramble

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - The Dexter Rotary Club will be hosting a four person golf scramble on Friday, June 17.

The event will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and will be at Hidden Trails Country Club.

The entry fee is $50 per person. The scramble will have two flights and prizes will be give to the top three teams in each flight.

Ameren: Tips to prevent copper theft

FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - According to Ameren, thieves are risking their lives and the lives of innocent people to steal copper and other metals with a high global price.

Ameren says copper thefts can cause extensive power outages and fires that could injure or kill innocent people. Not only has copper been stolen from Ameren utility facilities but thieves have targeted copper wire and pipes at businesses, private homes and apartments.

Ameren offers these tips as the best line of defense against copper theft:

  • If you have information about a copper theft, report it immediately
  • Immediately report any suspicious activity around Ameren utility electric substations or other utility facilities
  • When away from home, make sure your house and outbuildings are securely locked. If you are gone for an extended period of time, notify police and have a trusted friend or neighbor watch your property.

Marketbasket survey: Mo. grocery prices increased

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - According to the Missouri Farm Bureau's Marketbasket Survey, food prices increased during the second quarter of 2011.

The survey is a quarterly check of grocery store prices and trends.

"Of the 16 food items we survey each quarter, 12 food items increased in price," said Diane Olson, director of promotion and education for the Missouri Farm Bureau.

Olson said the 16 food items surveyed this quarter totaled $47.23, an increase of $2.61 for the same items during the first quarter of 2011.

Five teens sent to the hospital after 15-year-old driver speeds, overturns car

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - Five teens, including two from Dexter, were sent to the hospital Sunday around 1:40 p.m. after the 15-year-old driver was speeding, skid off the road, hit a ditch and overturned the car according to police.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the 15-year-old girl from Senath, Mo. was driving a 2002 Ford southbound on County Road 509, three miles west of Senath when she skidded off the road from speeding, hit a ditch and overturned.

The driver was sent to Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett, Mo. with moderate injuries.

Also in the car was Scotty A. Johnson, 18, and Scotty A. Johnson, 17, both from Dexter. They were sent to the Twin Rivers with moderate injuries. Tiffany C. Hindmon, 16, from Gobler, Mo. was also sent to the Twin River with moderate injuries and Jessica D.
