Crash kills 2 from Marston in Stoddard County

An early afternoon crash Saturday claimed the lives of 2 people from Marston.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, it happened around 12:17 p.m. on US 60 and MO 114 at Morehouse in Stoddard County.

Charlie S. Hammons, 93, and Essie P. Hammons, 87, both of Marston were killed, according to the patrol.

The crash happened when a 1998 Ford driven west by Charlie Hammons pulled into the path of a 1996 driven north by Bryian G. Brown, 41, of New Madrid, according to the crash report.

Brown's vehicle then struck Hammon's car. Both vehicles left the road and Hammons was ejected. Charles Hammons died at a Cape Girardeau hospital. Essie Hammons died at the scene, according to the crash report.

Injured in the crash was a 13-year-old occupant in Brown's vehicle who was taken by ambulance to a Sikeston hospital for moderate injuries.

Man injured in early morning rollover crash

DONIPHAN, MO (KFVS) - A Dexter man was injured in an early morning rollover crash in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, it happened on around 1:45 a.m. Saturday on Highway 142, 2 miles east of Doniphan.

Richard D. Wilson, 48, of Doniphan was going eastbound when his 1996 Dodge ran off the right side of the road and overturned, according to the crash report.

Wilson recieved moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Doniphan hospital.

Police say Wilson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Bloomfield man found guilty of fourthDWI

BLOOMFIELD, MO (KFVS) - A Stoddard County jury found a Bloomfield man guilty of DWI on Tuesday.

Jason Musgrave of Bloomfield was found guilty of the Class C Felony of Driving While Intoxicated.  He was issued a DWI on December 10, 2010. This was Musgrave’s fourth finding of guilt for DWI (3 prior DWI offenses), according to Stoddard County Prosecutor Russ Oliver.  Musgrave's other convictions are from 2004, 2001, and 1993.

The jury deliberated 31 minutes before returning a guilty verdict. 

The judge ordered a sentencing assessment report to be conducted and delayed sentencing until the report is completed.

NRCS gets more funding for land conservation

NRCS gets more funding for land conservation

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Thirteen Missouri counties are eligible for technical assistance and funding through the Natural Resources Conservation Service, including Stoddard county.

The funding is related to the Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative and the Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative.

The deadline to apply for the next round of funding with either project is July 15.

More than $800,000 is available for CCPI projects in parts of Holt and Lafayette counties in northwestern Missouri, and southeastern Missouri counties that include: Shannon, Reynolds, Carter, Ste. Genevieve, St.

Firework display, Independence Day celebration

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The city of Dexter will have a fireworks display July 3 and Bloomfield will celebrate Independence Day on July 4.

The Dexter fireworks will start at dusk in East City Park. In case of rain, the city says it will be held on Saturday, July 9.

The Dexter Chamber of Commerce will be closed on July 4.

The city of Bloomfield will have their Independence Day Celebration on July 4.

MoDOT to put contruction on hold for holiday

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation announced Thursday they will suspend all routine construction and maintenance for the Fourth of July weekend to open roads and improve safety.

"We recognize it is a busy weekend for travelers, and a busy time of year for construction,” said Beth Wright, MoDOT’s state maintenance engineer. “This year flooding is added into the mix of things that could increase traveler frustrations, but we are doing our best to help you arrive without incident.”

MoDOT will limit the amount of work starting at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 1 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
