Does it Work Wednesday: Eggies

Just what we need: yet another kitchen gadget.  Eggies claim you can boil an egg yolk into the little plastic contraption and not have to peel it.  Kim Johnson and I are not off to a good start.

"This is going to time-consuming. Our water is already boiling. We're not even caught up!" the Bloomfield resident said.

We have more than a dozen little parts to unscrew and individually wipe with cooking oil before we can even crack an egg into the contraption.

It's fine, until you come across an egg yolk that's bigger than the hole on the Eggies. I had two eggs "miss" the hole and spill all over Kim's kitchen table.

She and I are about to "crack" trying to clean up the mess and get the Eggies into the pot of boiling water. What's more? The set only comes with six Eggies.

"If you were doing two or three dozen for a picnic, we'd be at this all day."

Phone lines restored at Dexter Police Dept.

Phone lines have been restored to the Dexter Police Department and the Dexter Fire Department.

Dexter Fire Chief Al Banken said during remodeling and expansion construction to the police department, workers accidentally cut the telephone lines to both departments.

But Banken says it did not affect emergency response because people could still call 911 for emergency dispatch.

He says it happened about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, but was back up and running by 3:30pm.

Banken says it's just another example to show how important it is to always be prepared as emergency response organizations.

"You plan for the future, and you plan for these emergencies, which turned out not to be an emergency, as a result of pre -planning. And that's the name of the game, pre planning," said Banken. "As far as I'm concerned as fire chief, the service of fire protection was not in jeopardy."
