Synthetic drugs seized in ongoing investigation

Officers took thousand of dollars worth of synthetic drugs off the street Monday morning in Columbia, Missouri, and the effects of the raid are felt right here in the Heartland.

Kevin Earl Bay was arrested on an outstanding Stoddard County warrant for distribution of analogue controlled substances.  He is charged with two counts of delivery of an analog controlled substance and six counts of delivering of an imitation controlled substance.

His bond was set at $250,000.

About 100 firearms and a large amount of substances believed to be synthetic cannabinoids were seized. At the request of the DEA, more than $630,000 in cash and a large amount of precious metals were seized by the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

The plan for this raid goes back to July, when the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department seized thousands of dollars worth of synthetic drugs from convenience stores around the county.

Workers head to New Jersey to help with Irene cleanup

Cleaning up after Hurricane Irene means a long week of work for crews from Townsend Tree Service, based in Parker City Indiana.

"The biggest issue we have right now is the water," explained Townsend Safety Manager James Fitzgerald, a native of Lesterville.  "Everything is so flooded, that we just can't get to part of it yet."

While Fitzgerald and his 50 crews work in and around Phillipsburg, New Jersey, colleague Jeremy DeBeaux and his guys are stationed in nearby Belvidere.  DeBeaux is from Dexter and works out of Townsend's district office in Fredericktown.  He says he's there with guys from Bloomfield, Fredericktown, Farmington, and Ironton.

"They've got trees all laid down on the power lines", DeBeaux describes in Belvidere.  "They've dragged a bunch of them down.  They've got broken poles and cross arms.  We're just trying to clean them out so they can put them back up."

Deadline is Friday to register for FEMA help

Deadline is Friday to register for FEMA help

If you or a loved one are still dealing with storm or flood damage from a couple of months ago in Missouri, Friday is the last day to sign up if you're in the Show-Me state.

Friday, Aug. 26 is the deadline to register with FEMA for federal assistance.

Officials say applicants are reminded to keep their FEMA information updated, but not to register twice. Duplicate registrations will delay processing an application.

"If you had damage, you must register with FEMA by Aug. 26, 2011. Don't prejudge your situation or feel that you may be taking something away from your neighbor," said Federal Coordinating Officer Libby Turner.  "We want to make every effort to reach all Missourians and ensure that they receive assistance for eligible losses."
